Patricia Cousins                 Artist bio

Gallery 1              Return to Artist

The dramatic light and atmosphere of the New England landscape is the source of inspiration for the paintings of Patricia Cousins. These abstractions distill the essence and mood of the land, the sea and sky into broad areas of lush color.  Moving beyond the physical representation of beaches, marshes and hillsides — they become meditations on nature and its wild rambling beauty — reflections of the natural world observed from the inside out.

Artistic influences include the larger than life color field paintings of Mark Rothko; the contemporary landscapes of Wolf Kahn; the loose painterly work of Eric Aho and the wildly free painting of Howard Hodgkin. Patty has studied with Jim Peters at the Provincetown International Art Institute and with Bonnie Goldstein at Castle Hill Center for the arts; she holds a BFA from the University of Connecticut. A former Wellfleet resident, Patty and her beloved Michael live in Connecticut where they find peace in the practice of yoga and meditation.
